All are welcome to join us tonight at Trinity Church for our Good Friday Service at 6:30 pm.
Each day this week, we're looking at the day by day unfolding of the Passion Week. As Good Friday continues, we reflect on the trauma of the Cross.
"Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?"
Matt | Mark | Luke | John |
27:27-61 | 15:21-47 | 23:26-56a | 19:16-42 |
SUMMARY
After his trials, Jesus crucified by Romans while the Jews mock. He speaks to his mother, to the thief, to no one (it seems) and then finally to the Father before breathing His final breath.
FOR REFLECTION
Read John 3:16 … Why did this happen? Was it the Sanhedrin’s fault, the Romans’ fault, or Pilate’s fault. Or do we share the blame for this? It’s all sort of true… but this happened because the Father planned it all (see Isaiah 53:8-10a). This is God’s love for you (see 1 John 3:16).
Jesus, we confess You … like the soldier before the Cross correctly testified, You are the Son of God! The sign mockingly placed atop Your Cross is the truth we boldly proclaim: “You are our King” … we mourn Your death.
